If you are the handy type and wish to to learn how to build custom snake cages, there are plenty of resources available to you. You can find plans and designs on the web that will help you get started.

Some things you you will need to consider is what type of reptile or snake you are making the enclosure for. Different breeds will have different needs and sizes. Will you need a large long tank for a Boa or will you need to build a cage that is tall to accommodate tree snakes?

Another thing to think about is whether your custom snake cages is going to need to look nice or if it can be a little more rustic. For instance, is it going to be a show piece in your house? If that is the case I'm not sure I would take that build on, as it takes quite a bit of skill to make a nice looking enclosure. It is probably better to look at the cages from Monster or Majestic. They are beautiful pieces of work.

You can build your snake or reptile enclosure from common items found at most DIY stores. Plywood and Plexiglass can usually be cut to your dimensions. You'll need some fasteners and a little bit of skill and you will be in business.

Some other things you will need to pick up are a heating pad, substrate so your snake is cozy, a water dish, lights, and a thermostat. Herpstat is one maker that a lot of snake owners and professionals use to moderate the heat in your cage.

You can customize your snake habitat to take on whatever configuration works best for you and the space you have available. You can make a large show item, or make a tank under your coffee table. If you have multiple snakes, you can make a vertical rack systems that allows you to stack the individual cages one on top of the other. This is handy if you may only have one or two snakes now, but plan on expanding your collection.
